Itinerary
- We depart from Santiago at approximately 8:00 AM, traveling about 110 kilometers into the heart of the Andes Mountains to reach the El Morado Natural Monument, a protected high-altitude area that embraces the Morales River Valley and its surrounding hills. Dominating the landscape is the impressive El Morado peak, the highest summit in the region, rising to 5,060 meters above sea level.
- By mid-morning, around 10:30 AM, we arrive at the Cajón del Arenas sector, a striking area characterized by expansive glaciers, mountain lagoons, dramatic peaks, and important archaeological remains. This region is also home to diverse native flora and fauna, where it is common to spot guanacos and, with some luck, soaring Andean condors.
- At this point, we begin a horseback riding excursion lasting approximately two to three hours. Riding along scenic trails, we enjoy breathtaking views of the mountain lake fed by the ancient Hanging Glacier of El Morado, set beneath towering peaks exceeding 4,600 meters in elevation.
- During the journey, we pause to rest and savor a traditional grilled barbecue while surrounded by native vegetation and pristine mountain scenery, before starting our descent. Later, we are treated to a carefully prepared Spanish-style platter featuring a selection of cheeses, Serrano ham, and a refreshing, fruit-forward Chilean wine.
- In the late afternoon, around 7:00 PM, we begin our return to Santiago, concluding a memorable day immersed in the natural beauty of the Andes.
