The excursion begin very early in the morning, in front of “Don Tomás restaurant” ( referent point in Viñales, easy to find once you be in town ) where the guide will be waiting for you, with a taxi that is required to reach the initial point.
Getting out of the taxi 5 km farther, start the adventure. Walking in totally darkness nearly an hour up hill to find “Los Acuáticos”. From the porch of a farmer house, seated, with some luck in a rocking chair. Enjoin a lovely coffee, or maybe a juice, offered by the farmer, and the magnificences view to “Valle la Penitencia” and “Valle del Palmarito” covered both by a see of mist, that happen most part of the year at that time, you will see the Sun coming out from the mountains.
After enjoin the view, the place and some history about the local people, start the return through the “Valle la Penitencia” to rich later “Valle Dos Hermanas” finishing near the Mural de la Prehistoria approximative 3 hours after the beginning of the tour to catch the taxi for go back to Viñales.
About the place
“Los Acuáticos” is a very quiet place inside the mountains of Viñales where just two families live now a day, people that has they own traditions an habits, impossible to describe in words even for the best writer or to print in pictures for the best camera, totally worth to see.
Los Acuáticos Community is located on one of the mountain slopes of the Cordillera de los Órganos in the westernmost province of Cuba, and it was founded in 1943 by Ms. Antonia Izquierdo, who, in the past, believed in the medicinal and therapeutic properties of water, to which the town owes its name. The last person, who traditionally possessed knowledge about the curative effects of water, died in 2002. However, although he did not manage to transfer his legacy to other generations, the inhabitants of the Community of Aquatics continue to maintain their faith in this tradition.. The trip to Los Acuáticos is recommendable not just from the cultural point of view, but also from the landscape one, since the 1 km stretch which covers the distance of the exit of Dos Hermanas to the population, counts with a great diversity of autochthonous vegetal species, perfect frame for the lifestyle and beliefs of the natives.

• In case of cancellation up to 72 hours before the departure time of the excursion, a penalty of 10% of the excursion fare will be charged. • Regarding cancellations made between 72 and 24 hours before the departure time of the excursion, a penalty of 50% of the excursion fare will be applied. • Cancellations reported within 24 hours before the departure time and No-Show (no presentation at departure time), a penalty of 100% of the excursion fare will be applied. • Booking fees and credit card surcharges cannot be refunded in case of cancellation.
