“CAVE DIVING - CAVERN 35TH ANIVERSARIO + CAVERN EL BRINCO, ZAPATA PENINSULA“ Tour
The band that runs parallel to the east coast of the Bay of Pigs known as the Speleolacustrine System of the Zapata Swamp, is located 150 km (2.5 hours by car) from Varadero and is where several flooded cavities open that owe their origin to telluric movements. As a fundamental characteristic is that they are penetrated by seawater due to their relative proximity to it, which causes them to have Thermoclines and Haloclines combined between them between 9 and 12 meters deep, being able to find 25oC between the surface and 10 meters (brackish water) and from there down 26, 27 and up to 28oC (totally salty water). These caverns open along a large crack or fracture that when separated were flooded by phreatic-marine waters. They are quite deep, some of them reaching more than 60 meters, spectacular backlights are of great attraction as well as the picturesque surroundings of these scenarios.
DIVING IN CAVERN 35TH ANIVERSARIO AND CAVERN EL BRINCO. BAHIA DE COCHINOS AREA (Two tanks (double immersion) and two caverns).
Cavern 35th Anniversary: An impressive and huge cavern, ideal to dive through some galleries to see the entrance lights but also has the presence of halocline and a small layer of sulfate that makes it a very different dive site from the rest.
Cavern El Brinco: It is completely different from other caverns in the region. This one is accessed through a small opening to reach a natural pool and after overcoming the first few meters with little visibility we pass to a very impressive huge room of almost 40 meters deep. The cave of El Brinco has spectacular clear and transparent waters. Of course, this is only for advanced divers with special training and equipment!
