Accessible only by boat, your evening begins with a serene cruise across the Nile — a magical prelude to the show itself. The island, a granite-covered alluvial rock just 460 meters long and 150 meters wide, lies about 8 kilometers south of the Aswan Dam, in what was once the frontier between Egypt and Nubia. The site’s name, Philae in Greek, derives from the ancient Egyptian Paaleq, meaning “the end” or “remote place,” while in Coptic it became Pilak, often translated as “the island from the time of Re.” This sacred meaning connects the site with the Egyptian creation myth, where the earth first emerged from the primordial waters of chaos. As the narrative of the show unfolds, you will hear the voice of Isis herself, recounting her eternal love for Osiris and her quest to resurrect him after his tragic death.
