Alexandria – The Pearl of the Mediterranean: Founded in 331 B.C. by Alexander the Great, Alexandria stands as a timeless bridge between the ancient and modern worlds. Gracefully poised along Egypt’s northern coast, this legendary port city overlooks the shimmering waters of the Mediterranean Sea, where history, culture, and legend intertwine. In ancient times, Alexandria was celebrated as a beacon of knowledge and enlightenment. It was home to the magnificent Pharos Lighthouse, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, and the fabled Library of Alexandria, the greatest repository of learning and wisdom of antiquity. Scholars, scientists, and philosophers from across the known world once gathered here, shaping the foundations of modern civilization. Among its most revered monuments stood the Temple of Serapis, known as the Serapeum, a grand sanctuary symbolizing the union of Greek and Egyptian beliefs. Yet Alexandria’s past was not without tragedy — it was also marked by moments of cultural conflict, such as the martyrdom of Hypatia, the brilliant philosopher and mathematician, in 415 CE. From its humble beginnings as a small fishing port, Alexandria blossomed into the largest and most cosmopolitan city of ancient Egypt, a vibrant center of trade, art, and intellect. Today, the city continues to captivate travelers with its Mediterranean charm, historic sites, and a unique blend of ancient grandeur and modern vitality — a living testament to the enduring spirit of Egypt’s northern jewel.

Once the cultural heart of the ancient world, this legendary coastal city still bears the marks of its Greek, Roman, and Islamic heritage, offering visitors an unforgettable journey through the ages. Among Alexandria’s most iconic landmarks stands the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, a stunning modern interpretation of the ancient Great Library of Alexandria, once the greatest center of learning in antiquity. Today, this architectural masterpiece continues that legacy, serving as a global beacon of knowledge, culture, and art. Nearby, descend into the mysterious Catacombs of Kom el Shoqafa, a fascinating underground necropolis that blends Pharaonic, Greek, and Roman artistic traditions — a rare and mesmerizing glimpse into Alexandria’s multicultural past. Continue your exploration at Fort Qaitbey, majestically standing on the very site where the Pharos Lighthouse, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, once guided sailors safely to shore. From its ramparts, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of the Mediterranean Sea and the city’s vibrant coastline. No visit to Alexandria is complete without marveling at Pompey’s Pillar, a towering Roman triumphal column that dominates the ancient Serapeum site — a symbol of the city’s enduring grandeur and resilience through the centuries.

In every corner of Alexandria, from its ancient ruins to its lively Corniche, the echoes of history mingle with the sea breeze, inviting travelers to relive the splendor of a city that has stood at the crossroads of civilizations for more than two millennia.
