“DISCOVER PLAYA PILAR” Tour
JARDINES DEL REY:
Jardines del Rey is the name of a group of keys that make up the Sabana-Camagüey archipelago, the most extensive and numerous of the four surrounding the island of Cuba. It is located north of the provinces of Villa Clara, Sancti Spíritus, Ciego de Ávila and Camagüey, belonging to the Cuban archipelago that includes the keys of: Cayo Guillermo, Cayo Coco, Cayo Romano, Cayo Guajaba, Cayo Sabinal and Cayo Paredón Grande.
Most of these islands are linked by an artificial road over the sea to the rest of the Cuban territory and to the state road network. Its name Jardines del Rey (King's Gardens) dates back to the Spanish colonization, when it was named by Diego Velázquez de Cuéllar around 1514, its discoverer, who decided to name the area after its exuberant vegetation and beautiful beaches of fine sand, in honor of the then King of Spain, Ferdinand the Catholic. The area has abundant tropical vegetation and is home to a colony of some 30,000 pink flamingos. In the cays you can find several types of exotic birds, as well as reptiles, they are also very close to a barrier reef of about 400 km long, which is estimated to be the second largest in the world. It is an excellent site for diving and other nautical sports.
