"HAVANA MAFIA" Bike Tour
Today, we will set off on electric bicycles to uncover the historical footprints of the Mafia in Cuba, particularly in Havana. This fascinating journey blends history, architecture, captivating stories, and of course, a ride in a vintage classic car from the era — cruising through the bustling metropolis that once served as the Mafia’s Caribbean playground.
We will explore iconic hotels that once belonged to notorious mobsters and learn why establishments with the same names can be found today in Las Vegas. During this full-day tour, we will visit the ruins of what may have been one of Havana’s most famous casinos, located on a small promontory near Marina Hemingway. We will also tour what is now Ciudad Libertad, formerly the military headquarters known as "Columbia," where Batista and many of his followers consolidated their power. Since January 1959, the site has been transformed into one of the country’s major educational institutions.
Both itineraries include hotels once controlled by the Mafia, some of their favorite bars, and a wealth of intriguing stories about the private and political relationships these figures maintained in Cuba. This tour promises to be thrilling and eye-opening, and you may even recognize certain spots from famous Mafia movies or documentaries.
Our guide will be waiting for you with the electric bicycles at 9:00 a.m. at Calle 21 #507A, between D and E, in Vedado. Upon request, an alternative meeting point can be arranged for private groups. Before starting, we will provide a brief explanation of how the bicycles work, adjust each bike to the rider’s height, and offer essential information about local traffic rules and road conditions. Transportation in Cuba often differs from what visitors are accustomed to — and you will notice this right away.
We do not publish a detailed, fixed itinerary because all our guides are Havana locals who know the city and the history of the Mafia better than almost anyone. Although we will pass by some of the city’s classic landmarks, these will not be the main focus of the experience. Our aim is to transport you back to a time when Havana was a vibrant global metropolis — glamorous, decadent, criminal, and shaped by the high society and underworld of the 1950s.
