“SCUBA DIVING IN CAYO LARGO DEL SUR”
Cayo Largo del Sur is a charming island of 37.5 km² at the south of Cuba that is part of the archipelago of the Canarreos to which also belongs the Isle of Youth. The diving area is distributed for 30 miles in the surroundings of Cayo Largo and other smaller depopulated keys. The numerous and varied coral reef formations that border these cays have created an impressive underwater scenario where a varied and abundant marine fauna and flora coexist. They can be divided into three main diving areas.
In the first zone, in the vicinity of Cayo Largo, we can enjoy a great diversity of coral bottoms with barriers, camellotes, and canals in an area that presents a curious fall to a point where it rises again in the form of mountains of corals that make the veril. In the second zone, a little further away from Cayo Largo, in the surroundings of Cayo Rosario, 19 miles away, at an average depth of about 18 meters, there are irregularly arranged coral mogotes among which various species of fish swim. The third and farthest from the diving areas, it is located approximately 30 miles away, near Cayo Sigua and Cayo Blanco, bordering the Gulf of Cazones, and where there are special conditions for wall diving due to the impressive falls you can find after 15 meters deep, which has abundant colonies of sponges, gorgonians, and black coral as well as a great fish variety.
Cayo Largo del Sur now has 32 dive sites. Among the preferred ones are Cañón de Martín (25 ), Acuario I (15 meters), Las Cadenas (15 meters), Canal de Espondrilus (25 meters), Los Ballenatos (13 meters), Abismo (15 meters), La Montaña (25 meters), Cañón de Cayo Sigua (15 meters), Cañón de Cayo Blanco (15 meters), Tony Point (18 meters), Albert Point (28 meters), among others.
The daily dive trips are scheduled to perform two rotary dives that are defined in advance. Divers who have bought a single dive must wait for the others since the boat returns after concluding the two dives.
Half day or Full Day diving for advanced and open water divers.
