"LAS TERRAZAS CANOPY TOUR" Tour

Las Terrazas Canopy Tour – Overview & Highlights: Nestled in the lush landscapes of the Sierra del Rosario, part of Cuba’s UNESCO-designated Biosphere Reserve, Las Terrazas is more than just an eco-community—it’s a living testament to nature, sustainability, and adventure. One of its crown jewels is the Canopy Tour, a thrilling zipline experience that soars above treetops, over a scenic lake, and offers breathtaking views of Cuba’s verdant terrain.

Key Features:

  • Historic First in Cuba: Las Terrazas hosts what is widely considered Cuba’s first zip-line / canopy circuit.
  • Scenic Route: The canopy extends about 1,600 meters (1.6 km) along steel cables, giving participants a unique aerial perspective of the forested reserve.
  • Height & Views: At certain points, the zip-line reaches significant heights — offering a sense of flying over the treetops with panoramic views of Las Terrazas village and San Juan Lake. Locally Sourced Cuba
  • Multiple Lines: There are six zip lines in the more extended option, making the adventure longer and more varied. Locally Sourced Cuba
  • Safety First: The canopy tour is staffed by trained personnel using professional equipment, making it accessible even for first-time zip-liners.
  • Participant Range: People from age 2 to 80 can take part, with some medical/safety restrictions (e.g., recent surgery, high blood pressure, or alcohol consumption aren’t allowed) according to local operators.

Why It’s Special:

  • Eco-Tourism Hub: Las Terrazas is not just a tourist spot—it’s an ecological project. The area covers over 5,000 hectares of reforested forest, built to counter soil erosion and support sustainable development.
  • Birdwatching & Biodiversity: While gliding on the zip-lines, you may spot some of the 199+ bird species that inhabit the region.
  • Combine Nature & Culture: The canopy tour is often part of a larger itinerary: visitors can pair it with walking through local trails, visiting old coffee plantation ruins (Cafetal Buena Vista), swimming in the San Juan River, and exploring the botanical gardens in nearby Soroa.
  • Sustainable Accommodation: Many visitors stay at Hotel Moka, an eco-lodge integrated beautifully into the landscape. From there, the zip-line tour is very accessible.
  • Adrenaline + Relaxation: The experience balances high-energy adventure (zip-lining) with the calm of nature: post-zipline, you can take a peaceful rowboat ride on the lake, hike, or go for a swim in natural pools.
