“SCUBA DIVING IN BAHÍA DE COCHINOS“ Tour
SCUBA DIVING IN BAHÍA DE COCHINOS – AN UNDERWATER WONDER OF CUBA: Dive into one of the most fascinating marine environments in the Caribbean! Located on the southern coast of Matanzas Province, the Zapata Peninsula—home to the legendary Bahía de Cochinos (Bay of Pigs)—is considered one of the most spectacular diving destinations in Cuba. Its crystal-clear waters, coral gardens, and mysterious underwater caves make it a true paradise for divers of all levels. This privileged area can be enjoyed all year round thanks to its geographical location, sheltered from the northern winds and winter cold fronts. The seabed here reveals an astonishing display of natural beauty: vast colonies of corals—especially black coral—flourish alongside colorful sponges in brilliant shades of yellow, violet, and orange. These come in all shapes and sizes: barrel, tube, basket, and cup sponges form surreal underwater landscapes that seem straight out of a dream. The diversity of marine flora and fauna is simply breathtaking. You’ll swim among large gorgonians, coral fans, and countless tropical fish that bring color and motion to this aquatic world. But what truly makes Bahía de Cochinos unique is its combination of marine and cavern diving. The region’s flooded caves and cenotes, connected to the vast Ciénaga de Zapata karst system, offer an exclusive experience found nowhere else in Cuba.
Here, divers can enjoy multiple styles of diving — from shallow coastal explorations and wall diving to more technical multilevel and cave diving. Just a few meters from the shore, you’ll find elkhorn corals, brain corals, star corals, and leaf corals — an explosion of biodiversity within arm’s reach. And as you move about 100 meters offshore, you’ll encounter a dramatic underwater wall that plunges to depths of 80 meters (260 feet) or more. Its steep vertical drop is adorned with massive sponges, gorgonians, and coral formations that leave every diver in awe. For lovers of history and mystery, shipwrecks lying on the seabed add another layer of excitement to each dive. Exploring these silent remnants of the past, now home to marine life, is a journey through both nature and time. Your diving adventure includes all necessary equipment — air tank, weight belt, and complete gear — along with the guidance of an internationally certified instructor who will give a detailed pre-dive briefing to ensure a safe and unforgettable experience. Comfortable bus transfers from the dive center to each site are also provided.
