Biran is a symbolic and emblematic place in the contemporary history of Cuba, where Fidel and Raul Castro Ruz, the top leaders of the Cuban Revolution, were born on August 13, 1926 and five years later, on June 3, 1931, his brother Raul. The Historic Complex of Biran is located in a remote village between hills and sugarcane fields, with an extension of 26 hectares. It is made up of 11 well-preserved facilities, representative of vernacular wooden architecture, located in a relevant environmental setting. The site preserves a complex that functions as a museum, which includes the house where Fidel was born, an almost exact replica of the one that burned down in 1954, as well as a small store, the post office, the La Paloma bar, the hotel, the butcher's shop, the little school and the cockfighting fence.
The Historical Complex of Biran, has its origins in 1915, when Angel Castro Argiz, father of Fidel and Raul Castro Ruz, bought his first farm called "Manaca", which was perhaps the great longing of his native Láncara, back in Galicia, Spain. The batey, which is located on the edge of the Sierra de Nipe and is crossed by the old road to the East, this farm, surrounded by a lush and beautiful mountain range, whose top stands out a plateau of red earth with huge pine forests, developed a batey that until 1958 came to have 27 facilities, with red-painted zinc roofs and walls of orange-colored boards, making a beautiful contrast between nature and the labor action of man, typical of cities at that time, such as education, lodging, mechanical repairs, commerce, cinema, bakery, candy store, bar, butcher's shop, post office and telegraph. The Historic Complex of Biran is currently made up of 12 facilities, most of which are representative of the vernacular wooden architecture, including the birth house, which was rebuilt according to its original features after being destroyed by fire, the rural school number 15, where Fidel studied, the family pantheon, the hostel, commerce and barracks of the Haitians, where 1,175 museum objects are displayed.
