Description
Sumidero, a small town in the municipality of Minas De Matahambre in Pinar del Ríola, the westernmost province of Cuba. Sumidero, is an intramontane valley bathed by the tributaries of the Cuyaguateje river and that has a history that goes back to the Primitive Community of which we have been left pictographs in the stone walls of the mogotes near the center of the town. The indigenous presence in the area is confirmed by the findings of remains that indicate trips to the coasts such as shells and fish skeletons, as well as the finding of secondary burials in the caves of Pío Domingo and Cueva Román. It covers an area of 173.83 km2 in the mountainous center of Pinar del Río, surrounded by the elevations of the Sierra de los Órganos, the southern and northern shales and the Cuyaguateje River. It is an intramontane valley with fertile land, which makes agriculture its fundamental economic base, together with forestry.
