The volcanic eruption that began on March 19, 2021, at 20:45, was a spectacular and rare event that attracted many visitors and observers. The location of the eruption, near Grindavík, was ideal as it did not pose a significant threat to the nearby towns or infrastructure. Although there were some initial worries about the effects of the lava flow and the ash cloud, the eruption turned out to be relatively mild and contained. • The hike takes about 45 minutes to an hour one-way, depending on your speed and endurance. You will climb about 300 meters (984 ft) over a distance of 8 km (4.9 miles). Along the way, we will stop to take pictures and admire the amazing views.

• We provide you with walking poles for balance and crampons for winter conditions.

• Your safety and satisfaction are our top priorities, so our guide may adjust the tour and route to match the weather, your pace, and your energy level.

• We may also take a different path through the lava fields for a more unique and adventurous experience, if time and conditions allow.

• Self-Drive | Meet on location: This option requires you to drive yourself to Grindavik, where our meeting point is located. It is only a 10-minute drive from the hiking trail. Once you arrive, you will park your car as instructed by our guide. You will receive the exact location of the meeting point with your voucher. The hike will start after everyone is ready.
• With transfers | Pickup and dropoff included: This option includes a round trip to the volcano site. You will be picked up from your place of stay and driven to the trailhead where you will meet your local guide. The guide will lead you on a scenic and informative tour of the volcano area. After the tour, you will be driven back to your hotel.
