"LITLI-HRÚTUR VOLCANO HIKE" Private Tour

Highlights: Little-Hrútur Volcano, "Unforgettable Journey to Iceland's New Volcanic Eruption in 2023"

Information about Litli-Hrútur active volcano hike:

  • Join us for an unforgettable adventure on the slopes of the active volcano Kilauea. This hike is suitable for those who are looking for a moderate to challenging experience, as the terrain is uneven and the distance can vary from 16 to 20 kilometers (10 to 12 miles) depending on the daily conditions. You will have the privilege of enjoying this hike in a private group, with only your family and our expert guide. The highlight of this tour is the chance to witness the amazing spectacle of lava flowing from the crater and creating new land. Depending on the safety and pollution levels, we may be able to get closer to the lava or observe it from a distance. Either way, you will be amazed by the power and beauty of nature. Our guide will customize the tour according to your pace and preferences, and will share with you fascinating facts and stories about the volcano and its history. Be prepared to encounter some hills along the way, as the lava flow creates different elevations and shapes. The duration of the hike can also vary depending on the route we take and the air quality. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that you don't want to miss!

Starting time:

  • You can choose to self-drive or book a transfer service for your visit to the volcano site. If you want to adjust the pickup time or meeting time, you can do so during the booking process. However, please keep in mind that the custom starting time (if required) should be within the range of 10:00 am and 12:00 noon, as the volcano site will close at 6:00 pm.

Why choose us for a private volcano tour?

We prioritize your safety above all else in our operations. Ever since the first eruption in 2021, we have been diligently preparing ourselves to comply with strict safety standards for visiting hazardous areas such as Fagradalsfjall, Meradalir, and the recent Little-Hrútur eruption.

Our guides are equipped with portable gas meters for monitoring CO2 and SO2 levels, ensuring they always know the best locations for the highest air quality. Moreover, we provide our guests with professional 6200-grade gas masks fitted with acid gas and dust filters. Walking poles are also available, ensuring a safe and enjoyable exploration of these volcanic wonders.

  • If you love hiking and exploring nature, we have two options for you to enjoy this amazing experience. You can choose to self-drive to the hiking location and meet our guide there, or you can opt for our transfers service and we will pick you up and drop you off at your accommodation. Both options include a guided hike of up to 5 hours, where you will see stunning views, learn about the local flora and fauna, and have a picnic lunch in a scenic spot. The self-drive option gives you more flexibility and independence, while the transfers option saves you the hassle of driving and lets you relax before and after the hike. Whichever option you choose, you will have a memorable day in the outdoors with us.

PLEASE NOTE IF YOU ARE DOING THE TOUR WITH CHILDREN:

  • When planning a tour with children, it is important to consider the extra time that may be needed for hiking, as children may not be able to walk as fast as adults. Hiking with children can be a rewarding and fun experience, but it also requires some preparation and patience. Please make sure to check the difficulty level and duration of the hike before booking, and to pack enough water, snacks, sunscreen, and other essentials for your family. We want you to enjoy your tour and stay safe and comfortable.

Meeting points:

You have two options to join the Volcano Tour. You can either book a pick-up service from Reykjavik or meet us directly at the starting point in Grindavík. The pick-up service is available for an extra fee and must be reserved in advance. If you choose to meet us on your own, you can start the experience at any of the following locations:

  • Víkurbraut 58, 240 Grindavík, IS. This is our main office where you can check-in, get your tickets and equipment, and meet your guide. There is free parking available on site.
  • The entrance of the Blue Lagoon. This is a convenient option if you are planning to visit the famous geothermal spa before or after the tour. You can park your car at the Blue Lagoon parking lot and walk to the entrance where our staff will be waiting for you with a sign that says "Volcano Tour".
  • The parking lot of the Krýsuvík Geothermal Area. This is the closest option to the volcano site, but also the most adventurous one. You will need a 4x4 vehicle to drive on the gravel road that leads to the parking lot. From there, you will join a shuttle bus that will take you to the volcano site.

To ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience, we kindly ask you to arrive at the meeting point no later than 15 minutes before the start time of your tour. This will allow us to check you in and provide you with the necessary equipment and instructions. If you have any inquiries or require assistance, please feel free to reach out to us at +354 123 4567 or info@volcanotour.is. We are excited to welcome you soon!
