ACATENANGO VOLCANO OVERNIGHT TOUR
Overview

ACATENANGO VOLCANO OVERNIGHT TOUR

The Acatenango is a stratovolcano of Guatemala, near the city of Antigua in the municipality of Acatenango (Chimaltenango). The volcano has two peaks, Pico Mayor and Yepocapa (3880 meters above sea level), which is also known as "Tres Hermanas". Acatenango is joined to the Fuego volcano, and the union of both is known as "La Horqueta"; in fact, the massif of Fuego-Acatenango comprises a mountain range of five or more volcanoes in a north-south direction perpendicular to the Central American arc of Guatemala. Among the main ones are Antiguo Acatenango, Yepocapa, Pico Mayor de Acatenango, Meseta and Volcán de Fuego. The Fuego-Acatenango massif was originally referred to by Spanish settlers as "the volcanoes of fire".

Volcanism in this region has been going on for more than 200,000 years. Many of which are constantly active. This group of volcanoes reaches an altitude of 3500 meters above sea level, above the Pacific coast in the south of the country; and above 2000 meters above the Guatemalan highlands in the north.

This tour is ideal for adventurous souls who want to spend the night in the camp and witness the eruption of Fuego (the twin volcano of Acatenango) from a distance.
