ATACAMA SALT FLAT, CHAXA LAGOON AND TOCONAO – SAN PEDRO DE ATACAMA, CHILE. Discover one of the most iconic landscapes of northern Chile on this unforgettable journey through the Atacama Salt Flat, the largest salt flat in the country and one of the most impressive natural wonders of the Andes. This excursion combines breathtaking scenery, unique wildlife, and traditional Andean culture, offering a complete and enriching experience. The tour begins with departure from San Pedro de Atacama, heading south toward the vast Atacama Salt Flat, a spectacular expanse of white salt crust framed by towering volcanoes. Our first major stop is Chaxa Lagoon, located within the Los Flamencos National Reserve. We then continue toward the charming highland village of Toconao, a traditional Andean settlement known for its white stone architecture made from volcanic liparite. Here, guests will explore the village, visit the historic San Lucas Church, and learn about local life, ancestral customs, and artisanal traditions that have been preserved for generations. There will also be time to browse local handicrafts and enjoy the tranquil atmosphere of this picturesque oasis. Throughout the journey, expert guides will provide insight into the region’s geology, flora, fauna, and cultural heritage, enhancing the experience with valuable context and local knowledge.
