CASTRO, ISLA DE CHILOÉ (Greater Island or Chiloé Island)
“TREKKING CHILOE NATIONAL PARK” TOUR.
Overview

HUILLINCO, is a hamlet in the Los Lagos district, located north of the Calle Calle River and west of the communal capital, stands out for its wooden pier and its particular cemetery.

CHILOE was created by Supreme Decree No. 734, in 1983, as a consequence of the conflict caused by the complaint against the Chiloé Splinters Project of the previous decade. Over time, its surface has decreased by more than 4,500 ha because in neighboring sectors there are Huilliche communities that had initially remained within the protected area. Therefore, they could not exercise their property rights or legally carry out their resource extraction activities. First, the Lake Huelde area in the community of Chanquín was disaffected, that is, it lost its status as a protected area, later the same was done with a strip of beach and land between Huentemó and the Colecole River and finally another strip between the river Colecole and the Anay River, which came under the control of the Huentemó community. In these disaffected places, joint conservation and tourism projects are carried out between the National Forestry Corporation and the indigenous communities.

CHONCHI, is a town that is located on the eastern coast of Chiloé, about 25 km south of Castro. It is located on three natural terraces, hence the nickname of the City of the Three Floors. The first floor corresponds to the port, the second to a large part of the old houses on Centenario Street and the third to the square and the Church.2 Centenario Street was declared a national monument of Chile in the category "Typical area" and is characterized for its large wooden houses, built at the beginning of the 20th century during the peak of the exploitation of the cypress of the Guaitecas, when the Chonchino Ciriaco Álvarez was nicknamed "King of the Cypress".

The Chonchi church is one of the 16 wooden churches in Chiloé that were declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco. Its construction began in 1754 and was not finished before 1859.3 Within the commune, the other church that has the category of World Heritage Site is that of Vilupulli, built at the end of the 19th century, inaugurated on January 16, 1872 and known for its slim tower. Its patron is Saint Anthony of Padua.

The Museum of Chonchinas Traditions is a house whose first floor is set as the home of a wealthy family from the early twentieth century, while on the second floor and in the patio different pieces of the daily life of Chiloé during the century meet. XX.
