“CASTRO & DALCAHUE IN CHILOÉ ISLAND” TOUR

The Soul of Chiloé: Castro and Dalcahue

No trip to Chiloé is complete without experiencing the vibrant capital of Castro and the deeply authentic fishing village of Dalcahue. Together, they form the cultural heartbeat of the archipelago.

Castro is a visual feast and the island’s proud capital. It is famous worldwide for its iconic palafitos—clusters of brightly painted wooden stilt houses that line the water's edge, reflecting beautifully in the bay. Here, you can marvel at the towering Iglesia San Francisco, a stunning UNESCO World Heritage site that showcases Chiloé’s unique wooden church architecture. After soaking in the views, wander through the city’s famous artisan market, which is uniquely built over the water on stilts, making it the perfect place to shop for local woolens and crafts while the tide rolls in beneath your feet.

Just a short and scenic drive away lies Dalcahue, a picturesque and tranquil port town that feels like a step back in time. Known as the artisan hub of the island, its charming waterfront comes alive with locals from surrounding islands who arrive by boat to sell their handcrafted goods. It’s the ultimate spot to find high-quality Chilote textiles, woven baskets, and intricate woodcarvings. With its gentle bay views, cozy restaurants serving incredibly fresh seafood, and a warm, unhurried atmosphere, Dalcahue offers a pure, intimate taste of local island life.

While Castro dazzles with its grand architecture and colorful landscapes, Dalcahue wins you over with its rustic charm and living heritage—making them an unforgettable duo.
