“PENGUIN COLONY IN MAGDALENA ISLAND” TOUR.

Isla Magdalena is a Chilean island located in the Strait of Magellan. Together with the Marta islet, they form one of the most important penguins in southern Chile, known as the Los Pingüinos Natural Monument, for which fishing is prohibited around the island, to preserve being supervised and administered by the National Forestry Corporation, who also cares for the Magdalena Island Lighthouse on loan.

It is an important natural refuge for species such as the Magellanic penguin, cormorant, sea lions among others. Between 2001 and 2002, a census was carried out that registered a penguin population of around 63,000 reproductive pairs.Therefore, there is a monitoring program to evaluate the tourist damage on the island and also carry out studies among the island's penguins. Magdalena and the Falkland Islands, where fishing is not prohibited.

Itinerary

• Departure from our hotel in Punta Arenas, to navigate through the Strait of Magellan, and reach the Natural Monument of the Penguins.

• This Island has a population of 150,000 penguins, who coexist with an abundant marine fauna during the months of November to March.

• In addition to its main attraction, the presence of the Rock Cormorant, the Southern Gull and the Skúa, in addition to marine mammals such as the Common Wolf and the Fine Wolf.

• After our visit, we will return to our hotel in Punta Arenas.
