Itinerary
Prepare yourself for an unforgettable adventure at one of Chile’s most renowned landmarks! Climbing Villarrica Volcano in Pucón offers a thrilling challenge as you make your way to the crater of South America’s most active volcano on a 4 to 5-hour hike.
Your journey begins on rugged volcanic terrain, where you’ll navigate loose rocks or snow between 1,800 and 2,100 meters along a moderate zigzag path—crampons may be needed depending on the conditions.
From 2,100 to 2,500 meters, the climb intensifies across hard-packed snow or ice, requiring the use of an ice axe and regular technical breaks for hydration.
The final ascent from 2,500 to 2,847 meters is steep and exposed to strong winds, demanding great physical effort; here, you’ll don protective masks before reaching the active crater, where you can witness smoke vents and potentially glowing lava up close.
The descent, lasting just 2 to 3 hours, is much quicker and can be done on foot or by taking the exhilarating “volcano slide,” capping off an epic experience filled with adrenaline, stunning views, and a profound connection to nature.
