Itinerary
Explore the southernmost lighthouse on the American continent and discover one of the most remote and breathtaking coastal landscapes in Chilean Patagonia. This trekking experience combines adventure, nature, history, and spectacular views along the legendary Strait of Magellan.
- The excursion begins with pick-up from your accommodation in the urban area of Punta Arenas between approximately 8:00 AM and 8:30 AM. From there, we travel south along Route 9 toward Punta Árbol, covering approximately 70 kilometers through the wild Patagonian landscape.
- Upon arrival at Punta Árbol, we begin our trek toward Faro San Isidro, the historic lighthouse considered the southernmost on the American mainland. The trail covers approximately 5.5 kilometers each way and follows a remote pebble beach along the coast of the Strait of Magellan.
- The hike to the lighthouse takes around two hours, during which participants will have the opportunity to observe and identify native flora and fauna typical of the region. Throughout the journey, visitors can enjoy the untouched beauty of Patagonia, surrounded by forests, rugged coastline, southern winds, and the immense scenery of the strait.
- Due to the remote natural environment, the route may occasionally vary depending on weather conditions such as tides, rainfall, or increased water flow from natural streams crossing the trail. When necessary, our guides will safely adapt the route by locating narrower crossing points through the forest or improvising temporary crossings using natural resources available in the area. (Some sections of the trail may include natural crossings with basic support features such as logs or assistive ropes. These are not improvised measures, but rather typical conditions of a natural route in a remote environment).
- Upon reaching Faro San Isidro, visitors are rewarded with spectacular panoramic views of the Strait of Magellan, Dawson Island, the impressive Darwin Range, and the remote landscapes of the Brunswick Peninsula — all in their full splendor when weather and visibility conditions allow.
- At the lighthouse, there will be approximately 30 to 40 minutes to rest, enjoy snacks, hydrate, take photographs, and fully appreciate the atmosphere of this extraordinary place at the edge of the continent before beginning the return hike along the same trail.
- After completing the trekking experience, we return to Punta Arenas, with the tour generally ending from approximately 4:00 PM onward, depending on weather and trail conditions.
