"VALLECITO - SALT MOUNTAIN RANGE" PREMIUM Tour

VALLECITO & THE SALT MOUNTAIN RANGE – SAN PEDRO DE ATACAMA, CHILE.Venture beyond the traditional routes of the Atacama Desert and discover Vallecito and the magnificent Salt Mountain Range (Cordillera de la Sal), one of northern Chile's most captivating and lesser-known natural treasures. Just a short distance from San Pedro de Atacama, this remarkable region offers an extraordinary combination of dramatic desert landscapes, fascinating geological formations, and panoramic viewpoints that showcase the immense beauty of the Atacama Desert. The Salt Mountain Range was formed millions of years ago through powerful tectonic activity that uplifted ancient marine sediments rich in salt and minerals. Over time, relentless winds and erosion sculpted the landscape into a spectacular collection of rugged ridges, weathered cliffs, narrow canyons, natural caverns, and unique rock formations. The result is an impressive desert environment where the colors, textures, and silence create an atmosphere unlike anywhere else on Earth.

Hidden within this remarkable landscape lies Vallecito, a peaceful desert valley that has become one of the Atacama's most photogenic destinations. Its surreal scenery, shaped by endless dunes, sculpted rock formations, and vast open spaces, offers visitors the sensation of exploring an untouched world far from civilization. The valley's tranquil surroundings and striking natural beauty make it an ideal location for photography, contemplation, and enjoying the immense solitude of the desert. One of the highlights of the excursion is the opportunity to visit several panoramic viewpoints overlooking the Salt Mountain Range and the surrounding Altiplano. From these natural terraces, visitors can admire an endless horizon of mountains, volcanoes, salt formations, and desert valleys stretching across one of the driest regions on the planet. As the sun begins to descend, the landscape is transformed by a spectacular display of colors, with golden, amber, orange, pink, and violet tones illuminating the mountains and creating an unforgettable desert sunset.

Vallecito is also known for its fascinating geological features and unusual natural formations, including ancient sedimentary layers, fossil-rich rocks, and desert landscapes that have become popular locations for astronomy, photography, and nature enthusiasts. Thanks to the region's exceptionally clear atmosphere and virtually nonexistent light pollution, the area offers extraordinary opportunities to appreciate the immense skies of the Atacama Desert. Whether you are seeking breathtaking scenery, unique geological wonders, unforgettable photography opportunities, or simply the chance to experience the peaceful silence of one of the world's most extraordinary deserts, Vallecito and the Salt Mountain Range promise an inspiring journey through landscapes that reveal the raw beauty and timeless character of the Chilean Altiplano.

Important Note:

Our agency strongly recommends that passengers follow an appropriate sightseeing schedule based on altitude levels. This gradual acclimatization helps the body adapt more comfortably to the region’s elevation and significantly reduces the risk of altitude-related discomfort during the trip. We recommend the following:

  • High-altitude excursions should be scheduled from the second day of your stay onward. Our suggested order is: Piedras Rojas & Altiplanic Lagoons first, followed by El Tatio Geysers, and finally the Salt Flats Route, which reaches the highest elevations.
  • For passengers continuing their journey to Uyuni, we strongly recommend completing at least two high-altitude excursions in San Pedro de Atacama before traveling to Bolivia in order to facilitate proper acclimatization.
  • For volcano ascents, we recommend a minimum of three full days of acclimatization in San Pedro de Atacama. Guests should ideally complete the region’s higher-altitude excursions before attempting trekking activities such as Cerro Toco or Láskar Volcano.

Following these recommendations will help ensure a safer, more comfortable, and more enjoyable experience while exploring the Atacama Desert and the surrounding Altiplano region.
