"HALF DAY PURITAMA HOT SPRINGS" Tour

PURITAMA HOT SPRINGS – A NATURAL RETREAT IN THE HEART OF THE ATACAMA DESERT: Nestled within a spectacular canyon carved into the foothills of the Andes Mountains, the Puritama Hot Springs are among the most exclusive and relaxing natural attractions in northern Chile. Located approximately 30 kilometers from San Pedro de Atacama and at an elevation of nearly 3,500 meters (11,500 feet) above sea level, this remarkable oasis offers visitors a unique opportunity to experience wellness, nature, and tranquility in one of the most extraordinary desert environments on Earth. The name Puritama originates from the ancient Kunza language spoken by the Atacameño people and translates as “hot water,” a fitting description for these naturally heated thermal springs that emerge from deep underground sources. Heated by the region’s volcanic activity, the mineral-rich waters maintain a pleasant temperature ranging between 30°C and 33°C (86°F–91°F) throughout the year, creating ideal conditions for relaxation and rejuvenation.

The hot springs flow through a narrow canyon surrounded by dramatic rock formations, native desert vegetation, and breathtaking mountain scenery. A series of crystal-clear thermal pools have formed along the course of the stream, each offering visitors a peaceful space to unwind while immersed in the beauty of the surrounding landscape. Carefully designed wooden walkways connect the pools, allowing easy access while preserving the delicate natural environment. For centuries, local communities have appreciated the therapeutic qualities of these waters, which contain natural minerals such as calcium, magnesium, and other elements traditionally associated with relaxation and physical well-being. Many visitors enjoy the springs as a way to soothe tired muscles, reduce stress, and recover after exploring the high-altitude attractions of the Atacama Desert.

Beyond the thermal experience itself, Puritama offers a unique connection with nature. The contrast between the warm waters and the arid desert surroundings creates an atmosphere of serenity rarely found elsewhere. The silence of the canyon, the fresh mountain air, and the gentle sound of flowing water combine to create an environment perfectly suited for rest and contemplation. Whether enjoyed as a wellness escape, a scenic excursion, or a moment of relaxation during a broader exploration of the Atacama region, the Puritama Hot Springs provide an unforgettable experience. Surrounded by the majestic landscapes of the Andes and nourished by the Earth's geothermal energy, this natural sanctuary represents one of the most enchanting and rejuvenating destinations in Chile’s Atacama Desert.
