Hostal Auténtica Pérgola, LUIS ESTÉVEZ, No. 61

Auténtica Pérgola House: This cozy big house is located on Luis Estevez Street between Independencia and Marti streets at 61; it inherited the colonial ground plan of the former house and it keeps the current eclectic codes from the early XX century.

This landscape house constitutes one of those few academic examples of eclecticism starting to be defined by its façade. It is considerably wide in relation to the predominance of its typology in this city. Its ground plan adopting the C form has an ample hall from where you can enjoy the views of the backyard of Romantic dream, with the prominence of the vegetation that moistens and refreshes the bedrooms in the ideal microclimate to rest.

It is located at the Central Area, half a block away from the Santa Clara Boulevard and block and a half away from the Leonicio Vidal Caro Square, civic center of the city, declared National Monument since 1999, a few steps from the Cultural Center “El Mejunje” of international relevance and with quick and easy communication with the Square and Monumental Complex “Ernesto Ché Guevara”, equally declared National Monument since 2002. Besides, the Auténtica Pérgola house is located on one of the oldest streets of the central area, linked to beautiful legends and traditions that enrich the cultural history of the tricentenary city.

The elegance of this house, linked to the eclectic-domestic architecture, representative of the city of Santa Clara, made possible the participation of this beautiful house in the VII edition of the Provincial Conservation and Restoration Prize 2011, sponsored by the Heritage Provincial Center of the Villa Clara Province, where the jury of the prestigious event decided unanimously to award the prize on the category of Restoration to such architectural work… “the devoted and respectful restoration work, by means of which the quality, the integrity of its architecture and the dedicated labor of restoring through a meticulous process the interior atmosphere of each space, galleries and backyard, has been retrieved.”

Obtaining such prize, validated its presentation to the VII edition of the National Prize of Restoration and Conservation 2011, organized by the Heritage National Counsel of The Republic of Cuba, obtaining a “Mention” in the category of restoration and receiving praising words from PHD.Eusebio Leal Spengler, Historian of Havana and President of the National Commission of Monuments, before the hereditary richness and delicacy of this beautiful exponent of the Santa Clara architecture.
