The Pinares de Mayarí Plateau within the Sierra de Nipe geographical complex, more than 700 m above sea level with its highest point on the Loma de la Mensura (995 m SNM), is located in the mountains of the northeast of the Eastern part of Cuba, its total area is 318.8 km2. From the floristic point of view, it is one of the most interesting regions of the Cuban archipelago because of its endemic richness, with just over 445 species, in a vegetation cover consisting of original pine forests, charrascales, evergreen mesophilic forests among others. The biodiversity of the fauna is represented by the report of more than 90 species of birds with 21 endemic Cubans as the most studied zoological group.
The naturalness of the park, marked by its mountainous relief in the form of a plateau, pine forests and its cool tropical climate for having micro-climatic conditions with temperatures of 210 C averages, with several degrees below the national average, create places of landscape uniqueness little repeated, presenting conditions for the development of recreational activities related to the interpretation of nature.
