During the Cuban Colonial period, the city had to extend its margins progressively, even into specifics zones where housing construction was forbidden due to its military importance for the defense against corsairs and pirates. Hence the name Vedado.

Casa de Palo was one of the first houses built in this area in the late XIX and early XX centuries, and it was the recreation house of a family of the habanera aristocracy. Its extensive roof strut, ample spaces and the use of the wood, defy the tropical climate of the island. The antiquity of the building, its constructive typology and its value as an exponent of the first constructions of the area, allowed its classification as a patrimonial city property.

The house is located in one of the most centric areas in Havana city, just a few meters from the 23 Avenue. This one is the most important avenue in Vedado which is the connection between the East (Old Havana) and the West (Miramar). Its strategic position allows the easy access, in walking, to many recognized historical and cultural sites, such as the University of Havana, the Plaza de la Revolución, the Museum of Decorative Arts, the Yara Cinema, Casa de las Américas, the Art Cuban Factory, the National Hotel of Cuba, the Alley of Hammel and the Malecón Habanero, etc. Restaurants, bars and other recommended places are also within easy reach distances.

Although the facade of the house and its spacious spaces are reminiscent of the colonial period, the house has the comfort conditions offered by contemporaneity. The eclecticism of its setting is expressed in 1950s furniture, wicker rockers and several chairs belonging to the VIBRA Collection, created by young Cuban designers and which has been awarded at design events in the country.
