El Hoyo de Pilón – A Natural Gem Near Trinidad. Located in the Valle de los Ingenios, near the historic city of Trinidad—the third settlement founded by the Spaniards on the island—El Hoyo de Pilón is a destination that perfectly combines nature, history, and authentic Cuban culture. The site is close to the Olla Pequeña waterfall and Pica Pica hill, offering visitors a scenic adventure in the heart of the Cuban countryside. The journey begins on horseback from the historic center of Trinidad, guided by a local expert. As you leave the village behind, you follow the Hoyo de Pilón Trail, where stunning views unfold at every turn: ruins of colonial-era sugar mills, remnants of barracks where African slaves once lived, and traditional peasant huts constructed with palm and guano boards. Along the way, friendly locals often invite visitors to enjoy a cup of rich Cuban coffee paired with handmade tobacco, a perfectly Creole taste of Cuban tradition. The picturesque landscapes also provide ideal opportunities for photography enthusiasts, capturing the harmony of history and nature.

At the heart of this natural site lies the Hoyo de Pilón waterfall, where crystal-clear waters plunge approximately 8 meters into a deep pool that begins at 5 meters and extends toward the surrounding natural basin. The sound of cascading water, the lush greenery, and the chorus of birdsong create a serene and unforgettable experience, perfect for swimming, relaxing, or simply reconnecting with nature. El Hoyo de Pilón is not just a destination—it is an immersive journey through Cuban history, culture, and pristine natural beauty, where every moment becomes a memory.

• Pick up at the hostal or hotel where the clients are accommodated.
• Clients are taken by horse-drawn carriage to the outskirts of the historic city of Trinidad, where they ride on horseback to begin the trail to the waterfall.
• Horseback riding through part of the Valle de los Ingenios, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, where they will learn about the endemic flora and fauna of Trinidad.
• You will visit the waterfall of El Hoyo del Pilon, a place of impressive beauty, where the ritual of coffee, tobacco and guarapo or sugar cane juice is performed and the excursion concludes with time for a swim in the beautiful and impressive waterfall.
• Includes lunch at a local ranchón with Creole food.
• End of the excursion: Return to the city of Trinidad, transferring the clients to the place where they are staying (Hostel or Hotel).

Note: Guests who do not want to ride a horse can be transported to El Hoyo del Pilón in a volanta that is driven by a local farmer on a horse.
