Overview

"CUBAN REVOLUTION" Bike Tour

Old Havana has been declared a World Cultural Heritage Site by UNESCO, and because of this, financial resources have been allocated for the reconstruction of this extraordinary part of the city's history: we have not forgotten our history, from which we can learn a lot for the future. Side by side with the classic cars, vans, bicycle taxis and horse-drawn carriages, we will explore the historical sites related to the Cuban Revolution. Today you will learn about the history of Cuba and its current revolution. The year 1959 marked the triumph of the bearded rebels over the forces of Fulgencio Batista, a turning point in Cuban history. Based on fascinating and exciting anecdotes, we embark on a journey through time in Cuba.

Itinerary

  • At 9 a.m. our guide waits for us with the electric bikes in the Calle 21 # 507A entre D y E, Vedado (21st Street # 507A between D and E, Vedado district). As an alternative and upon request, another meeting point can be established for individuals or groups).
  • We will begin our tour of the Vedado, towards the Habana Libre Hotel, which before the Revolution belonged to the Hilton Hotel chain.
  • We will continue through the streets of Centro Habana to the heart of Havana, making our next stop at the the Revolution, which is right across from the National Museum of Fine Arts. We will only visit outside the museums included in this tour, because we would spend almost half a day there and our tour would be less active. Our goal is that know where they are located, because, as most museums cannot be visited by bicycle, you will be able to make the visits individually on their days off, without the e-bikes. Of course, during the whole tour, you will receive information about the events that occurred in the revolutionary process.
  • You will be able to take pictures in the vicinity of the yacht "Granma", from where we will go to the Central Park. There we will be able to to admire the first statue erected to José Martí in Cuba. From there you can see The Capitol, a faithful replica of the Capitol from Washington, albeit with other dimensions.
  • In the center we will pass by magnificent buildings, dating from a time that we often only know from the lessons of history or film documentaries. Part of this area is in need of renovation, however, it is full of charm. There are also beautifully renovated buildings that give the city a flourishing spirit.
  • We will admire some interesting buildings, the Grand Hotel Manzana, the Gran Teatro de La Habana "Alicia Alonso", the Saratoga hotel, the Bacardi Building, the Partagás Tobacco Factory and many more. If it is open on this day, we can visit the José Martí's Birthplace, located in front of Havana's historic train station. José Martí is the national hero and a great revolutionary and intellectual of the 19th century.
  • We will pedal through the Prado, the most beautiful promenade in Havana, built in 1772, is more than 2 km from the Fraternity to the Malecón. It was the first paved road in Havana and was built on the model of the Ramblas from Barcelona and Madrid.
  • Along the Malecón we will move silently with our e-bike partners. "Traveling from the future, to the years 50", we will cross with Chevis, Buiks, Oldsmobile, Cadillac, Ladas and Moskvich, heading to the reopened State Embassy United of America and along Avenida de los Presidentes, towards Paseo Avenue, to reach the impressive Plaza of the Revolution. Here Fidel made his great speeches before more than a million Cubans. Presided over by a statue José Martí's giant, with the obelisk that sets the highest point in Havana, we will be surrounded by the National Library, the National Theater, the headquarters of the Cuban Communist Party, some ministries with huge images and phrases of Ernesto Che Guevara and Camilo Cienfuegos. We believe that this place has something special, a character that is particularly noticeable on days like on May 1 and July 26, when the masses of people from all over the country participate in their marches and celebrations.
  • From there we move slowly but surely towards our final point, namely the Mariana Grajales Park.
