"Tiwanaku" Tour
Located only 15 kilometers from Lake Titicaca, the ancient city of Tiwanaku, or Tiahuanaco as it can also be said, is one of the jewels of South America. It is known as one of the cultural attractions of Bolivia for being a spiritual and cultural center considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It is a city in ruins that was erected more than 2,000 years ago, must have been one of the most important cities in the region, the continent. It is 4,000 meters high, about 70 kilometers from the city of La Paz. Tiwanaku, according to studies, is a city that remained populated until the twelfth century, and the population lived primarily on agriculture. It is not known why the city was left uninhabited, although it is assumed that it was a natural disaster. Its religious center is composed of the Temple of Kalasasaya in whose interior is the famous Gate of the Sun, maximum exponent of the sculpture of Tihuanaco; the Semi-subterranean Temple with its enigmatic nail heads; the Akapana Pyramid and the Puma Punku ruins.
