“GEOGLYPHS PINTADOS & HUMBERSTONE TOWN” TOUR

Humberstone, an abandoned mining town dating from the early 20th century, located in the Atacama Desert, named after James Humberstone, a British chemical engineer who emigrated to South America in 1875 and made a fortune from saltpeter, a common material in "caliche", the nitrate-rich desert crust, which was used to produce fertilizer. This place is now a Chilean National Monument and is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Pintados Geoglyphs: These are a series of geoglyphs located in the Tamarugal pampas, in the Tarapacá region (Chile). They are located approximately 95 kilometers from Iquique, in the commune of Pozo Almonte. Here we can find more than 400 designs (human, animal and geometric).

Itinerary

• Departure from the hotel in Iquique.
• Arrival in the abandoned mining town of Humberstone. Tour of the place.
• We continue to Pozo Almonte, place of water supply to the saltpetre trains.
• We continue to the Pampa del Tamarugal, National Reserve located in the north of Chile.
• We will finish our visit with a stop at the geoglyphs of Pintados.
• Return to the hotel in Iquique.
