“LIMA CITY TOURS“ (STARTING AT THE AIRPORT)
We will pick you up directly from the airport and, together with our expert local guide, take you on a fascinating walking tour through the historic center of Lima, the vibrant capital of Peru.
Throughout this journey, you will discover the rich history of the city—from its foundation in 1535 to its rise as the “City of Kings”, a title that reflects its former status as the political, economic, and cultural heart of the Spanish Viceroyalty in South America.
Our tour begins with a visit to some of Lima’s most iconic landmarks, including the Gran Hotel Bolívar, an architectural gem that has witnessed countless stories, and the surrounding areas of Plaza San Martín, one of the city’s most symbolic squares, dedicated to the liberator of Peru.
We will then stroll along Jirón de la Unión, one of the most historic streets in downtown Lima—an area filled with elegant republican architecture, lively cafes, traditional stores, and buildings that each hold a piece of Lima’s past. This charming pedestrian walkway leads us to the magnificent Plaza Mayor, the birthplace of the city and the epicenter of political power for centuries.
Here you will admire important landmarks such as:
Recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1991, Lima’s historic center preserves an astonishing collection of colonial architecture that allows visitors to step back in time and appreciate the city’s legacy.
As one of the oldest capitals in South America, Lima served as the main cultural and administrative center of the Spanish empire on the continent. During the tour, we will explore palaces, mansions, and other historic structures that still safeguard secrets from the colonial era.
A highlight of the experience is the visit to the San Francisco Monastery, famous for its stunning baroque architecture and its enigmatic underground catacombs, one of Lima’s most intriguing historical sites. This sacred complex offers a rare glimpse into the religious traditions and burial practices of the colonial period.
We will also include a stop at the House of Peruvian Literature, a beautifully restored former train station that now celebrates Peru’s literary heritage. From the outside, you can appreciate its elegant façade and learn about the writers and poets who shaped Peru’s cultural identity.
Before concluding the tour, we will visit the Church of Santo Domingo, one of Lima’s most important religious monuments. Inside, you will admire its exquisite decorative details, colonial chapels, and learn about the Dominican Order’s influence on the city’s religious and cultural development.
After this enriching journey through Lima’s history and heritage, we will take you back to your hotel so you can relax and reflect on the unforgettable experience you have just enjoyed.
