The wetlands of the CHEPU basin are located in the Chepu river basin, on the island of Chiloé. Its importance lies in its rivers and continental wetlands that are habitat for different species of mammals, birds, and native amphibians in a lake environment whose waters come from the peaks of the Piuchén mountain range. As fresh water reservoirs, they are the origin of watercourses with pulvinated ombrotrophic bogs. Several areas of the wetland, totaling 1,900 hectares, have been declared a Chilean nature sanctuary since 2020.
