VOLCÁN OSORNO (Osorno Volcano), Los Lagos Region - Departure from PUERTO VARAS
“OSORNO VOLCANO HALF DAY” TOUR
Overview

“OSORNO VOLCANO HALF DAY” TOUR

VILLA ENSEDANA, born on the banks of the Llanquihue. As its name indicates, it corresponds to a circular water inlet on the eastern bank of the lake. It is a valley of glacial origin that is flanked by two imposing geographical features: to the east the Osorno volcano and to the south the Calbuco, on whose slopes tourism and small agriculture activities are developed. From the latter the two main rivers of the sector are born: the Blanco and the Tepú, also called "de la otter" or "la poza". Despite its low altitude, 70 meters above sea level, from Ensenada it is possible to access up to 2,652 meters at the summit of Osorno and in a large part of it you can also see the Puntiagudo and the Tronador.

VICENTE PEREZ ROSALES NATIONAL PARK, is a protected area framed by the Andes mountain range, and located in the province of Llanquihue (Los Lagos region), in south-central Chile. It was created in 1926 in honor of the outstanding public man Vicente Pérez Rosales, being the oldest Chilean national park. It has an area of 253,780 ha and altitudes ranging from 50 to 3491 meters above sea level. Its western entrance is close to the town of Ensenada, 72 km northeast of Puerto Montt and 64 km from Puerto Varas. Within the park are the small towns of Petrohué and Peulla. It is part of the biosphere reserve Temperate Rainforests of the Southern Andes.

VOLCAN OSORNO, is a stratovolcano in southern Chile that is located in the Andes mountain range, east of Lake Llanquihue. It is known worldwide for the landscapes it provides as the gateway to Chilean Patagonia, as well as for its similarity to Mount Fuji in Japan. This volcano owes its current name because it is indicated that it was visible to the Spanish founders from the relatively nearby city of Osorno. In colonial times the native population gave it different names, such as Purailla, Purarhue, Prarauque, Peripillan, Choshueco, Hueñauca and Guanauca, the latter two being the most common in the mid-18th century. It has an altitude of 2,652 meters and its imposing conical feature, rises majestically on the opposite side of the cities of Llanquihue and Frutillar, from which only the waters of Lake Llanquihue separate them. Its volcanic inactivity has lasted for more than a century and a quarter. In its slopes there are shelters that allow the practice of skiing and white sports in the winter. In summer, with the melting of the snow, volcanic fissures reappear that make hiking a dangerous sport, if all the necessary conditions for the practice of this discipline are not taken into account.
