“HIDDEN LAGOONS OF BALTINACHE + VALLECITO (MAGIC BUS)" Tour

AN EXCLUSIVE ATACAMA CONNECTION JOURNEY

A floating experience in the heart of the Atacama Desert Hidden among the vast landscapes of the Atacama Desert, the Hidden Lagoons of Baltinache offer one of the region’s most unique and memorable experiences.

Surrounded by dazzling white salt formations, these natural lagoons display intense shades of blue and green that contrast beautifully with the arid desert scenery. The result is a surreal landscape where water, salt, sky, and silence come together in perfect harmony.

At one of the lagoons, visitors can enter the water and experience the remarkable effect of its high salt concentration. The density of the water allows the body to float effortlessly, creating a sensation of weightlessness unlike any other. It is a relaxing, curious, and unforgettable way to connect with the natural wonders of the Atacama.

The remaining lagoons can be admired from wooden walkways, offering excellent viewpoints for observing the delicate salt formations and the changing colors of the water. During the visit, your guide will explain how underground water, mineral-rich soil, and intense evaporation have shaped this extraordinary environment over thousands of years.

More than a scenic attraction, Baltinache is a place to slow down and appreciate the silence, the vastness, and the incredible contrasts of the desert.

A visit to the Hidden Lagoons of Baltinache is perfect for travelers seeking spectacular landscapes, unusual natural phenomena, and an authentic Atacama experience—one that combines relaxation, discovery, and the timeless beauty of the desert.

Itinerary:

Between Salt, Water, Silence, and Open Desert

  • This is far more than a traditional excursion. It is a carefully curated journey through two contrasting landscapes that reveal a quieter, more intimate, and deeply sensory side of the Atacama Desert.

  • The Hidden Lagoons of Baltinache + Vallecito experience is one of Atacama Connection’s signature tours, designed for travelers who wish to move beyond the classic routes and discover the territory at a slower, more meaningful pace.

  • To preserve its personalized character, the tour operates with a minimum of four participants.

  • The Hidden Lagoons of Baltinache. We leave San Pedro de Atacama behind and venture into the vastness of the desert, where the horizon expands and the landscape becomes increasingly silent.

  • Our first destination is the Hidden Lagoons of Baltinache, a remarkable collection of salt lagoons surrounded by brilliant white ground and intense shades of blue and green.

  • In one of the lagoons, you can enter the water and experience the natural buoyancy created by its high salt concentration. Your body floats effortlessly, creating a unique sensation of lightness, calm, and connection with the landscape.

  • The remaining lagoons are admired from wooden walkways. Along the way, your guide will explain how salt, underground water, and powerful evaporation processes shape this fragile and extraordinary environment.

  • Here, silence is not simply part of the surroundings—it is part of the experience.

  • Fewer crowds. Less noise. More time to observe and enjoy.

  • Vallecito and the Magic Bus. We then continue toward Vallecito, a vast and peaceful area of the desert, shaped by soft dunes, salt formations, and uninterrupted views.

  • Among this otherworldly scenery stands the famous Magic Bus.

  • More than a striking photo opportunity, it offers a remarkable sense of scale: a small human creation standing alone in the immensity of the desert.

  • It is a place to explore slowly, photograph, feel the wind, and appreciate the textures and silence beneath your feet.

  • Choose Your Ideal Moment. Morning Experience. Begin the day surrounded by fresh air, quiet landscapes, and a peaceful desert atmosphere.

  • A complete breakfast is served outdoors, prepared by our team with care, simplicity, and attention to detail.

  • Afternoon Experience. Enjoy the changing light as the day moves toward sunset.

  • Warm colors gradually transform the lagoons, dunes, and salt formations, while the desert becomes even more still.

  • To complete the experience, we offer an outdoor cocktail with refreshing drinks and snacks—a perfect moment to pause and take in the scenery.

  • A Journey Designed to Be Felt. Whichever option you choose, the experience unfolds at a relaxed pace, with attentive guidance and constant consideration for the group and the day’s conditions.

  • This is not about rushing from one attraction to another.

  • It is about connecting two landscapes that naturally belong together—and allowing each one to reveal its own story.

  • We return to San Pedro de Atacama with the feeling of having experienced something truly different: not only because of the places we visited, but because of the way we experienced them.

This experience is ideal for travelers who:

  • Want to go beyond the classic Atacama routes
  • Appreciate small groups and personalized attention
  • Seek spectacular landscapes without strenuous physical activity
  • Value time, silence, and meaningful experiences
  • Believe that exclusivity lies in the way a journey is guided—not only in luxury

If you are looking for an experience that brings together salt lagoons, open desert, water, silence, and thoughtful storytelling, this is one of Atacama Connection’s most distinctive journeys.
