“PURITAMA HOT SPRINGS" Tour

Puritama Hot Springs: A Natural Oasis in the Atacama Desert.

Hidden within a spectacular desert canyon, the Puritama Hot Springs offer a unique opportunity to relax and reconnect with nature in one of the most breathtaking landscapes of the Atacama Desert.

Fed by naturally warm geothermal waters, the springs flow through a series of crystal-clear pools surrounded by red rock formations, native vegetation, and peaceful mountain scenery. The contrast between the arid desert and the lush canyon creates an unforgettable oasis—one where the silence of the landscape invites you to slow down and enjoy the moment.

Immerse yourself in the warm, mineral-rich waters and let the natural surroundings transform your experience into a true wellness escape. Each pool offers a different perspective of the canyon, making this the perfect place to unwind, admire the scenery, and take a refreshing break from your desert adventures.

Located at approximately 3,500 meters above sea level, Puritama is ideal for travelers looking for a relaxing and scenic experience in the Atacama. Whether you visit in the morning or afternoon, the combination of warm waters, dramatic landscapes, and pure tranquility makes these hot springs one of the region’s most memorable destinations.

Puritama Hot Springs: where the desert meets relaxation in a natural oasis.

Itinerary:

  • A Surreal Oasis: Warmth and Wellness in the Heart of the Atacama. The Puritama Hot Springs are more than just a destination; they are an invitation to breathe deeply and slow down.

  • Imagine a journey where nature, absolute comfort, and well-being blend seamlessly in one of the most stunning settings of the Atacama Desert. Here, thermal water emerges miraculously in the midst of the arid landscape, transforming your experience into something magical.

  • The Journey into the Canyon. We depart from San Pedro de Atacama in the morning, heading towards a deep, narrow canyon located just 30 kilometers away. As we travel, the desert becomes increasingly silent and dry—until the presence of water begins to transform the scenery before your eyes.

  • Ancient Wisdom, Healing Waters. The name of the place reveals its soul. In Kunza, the ancestral language of the Atacameño people, Puri means "water" and Tama means "hot." Puritama is, literally, "hot water"—a humble name for a sanctuary that has served as a natural source of rest and recovery for centuries.

  • A Sanctuary for the Senses. Upon arrival, you step into a natural canyon where the Puritama River flows, warmed by underground geothermal activity. Seven natural pools are distributed along the riverbank, with temperatures ranging between 28°C and 33°C (82°F - 91°F)—the perfect temperature to soothe your body after days of high-altitude exploration.

  • Time Stands Still. Here, the rhythm of the world changes. Wooden walkways and stairs connect the pools, allowing you to wander freely and calmly. The mineral-rich, warm water envelops you, offering an immediate sense of relief and lightness. It is more than a bath; it is a ritual of recovery.

  • During your visit, we guide you on the best way to enjoy the pools, always prioritizing your well-being. The environment is one of profound silence, framed by towering rock walls, native vegetation, and the constant, soothing sound of flowing water—a stark, beautiful contrast to the surrounding desert.

  • Return Rejuvenated. It is precisely this contrast that gives the place its power. On the return trip to San Pedro, your body will already feel the effects: more relaxed, warm, and fully recovered.

  • For this reason, this tour is often chosen as a strategic pause between more intense adventures, aiding physical recovery and helping the body adapt to the altitude and climate.

  • If you are looking for a moment to disconnect, care for your body, and reconnect with the rhythm of the desert, this is where that experience becomes reality.

  • The Puritama Hot Springs: simple in their proposal, but profound in their effect.
