“THE MYSTERIOUS RED LAGOON" Tour

This full-day expedition takes you far off the beaten path into the rugged heart of northern Chile’s Andes. From deep, emerald-green canyons to the vast, windswept high plains and a mysterious crimson lake, this is a journey for the adventurous soul and the avid photographer.

Your Adventure Unfolds at The Quebrada de Camiña: A Desert Miracle. We begin our descent into the breathtaking Quebrada de Camiña, a dramatic gorge carved by ancient rivers over millions of years. As we navigate the winding dirt roads, towering arid cliffs give way to an unexpected oasis. You will witness a startling contrast: the lush green of pre-Hispanic agricultural terraces and native flora thriving alongside the bone-dry desert. Keep your eyes peeled for ancient petroglyphs etched into the canyon walls, whispering the stories of indigenous cultures that have called this valley home for centuries.

The Mighty Altiplano: Roof of the World. Leaving the gorge behind, we ascend into the Altiplano, rising above 3,500 meters (11,500 feet). The air is crisp, the skies are an impossibly deep blue, and the horizons feel endless. This vast, treeless plateau is a unique ecosystem. Here, the silence of the desert is broken only by the wind and the distant calls of wildlife. Watch gracefully for wild vicuñas, soaring Andean condors, and vibrant flocks of flamingos dancing in the high-altitude marshlands, all set against a stunning backdrop of snow-capped volcanoes.

The Red Lagoon: Nature’s Masterpiece. The crown jewel of our excursion awaits hidden in the remote highlands. The Laguna Roja (Red Lagoon) is a visual spectacle that defies imagination. Fed by underground hot springs, the waters glow with an intense, almost supernatural crimson hue—caused by microscopic algae and rich mineral sediments. Framed by the stark white crust of borax deposits and surrounded by barren, golden mountains, the lagoon looks like a painting from another planet. It is a place of profound stillness and overwhelming beauty.
