IMPORTANT NOTES:
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Arrival from the country of origin to the Cairo airport. Reception, visa procedures with the assistance of Holiplus staff. Transfer to the Sheraton Cairo hotel (of the Marriot chain). Accommodation in Bed and Breakfast plan. Night in Cairo.
Breakfast at the hotel. In the morning departure to visit the necropolis of Giza, in it are the famous pyramids built by the pharaohs of the fourth dynasty Cheops, Khafre and Menkaure. Since they were created more than 4000 years ago, the pyramids of Egypt have been the most portentous and emblematic monuments of the Egyptian civilization, as well as the oldest and only wonder that is preserved, and in particular it is worth noting, the three great pyramids of Giza, the tombs of the kings Cheops, Khafre and Menkaure, whose construction dates back, for the vast majority of scholars, to the period called the Old Kingdom of Egypt. It is worth mentioning that the Pyramids are not only the most important monuments in Egypt, but also the oldest in the world.
Free afternoon with the possibility of optionally visiting the pyramidal complex of Sakkara, it was the most important necropolis of Memphis from the first dynasty to the Christian era. It is located west of the old capital and south of Cairo. In Saqqara is the Stepped Pyramid of Djoser, considered the first pyramid in the world and the oldest great stone structure. Here, on the edge of the Libyan plateau, we find ourselves in the kingdom of the desert, of a sacred land that dominates the Nile Valley. It is still possible to find silence and solitude in Saqqara, less attacked by the modern world than the plain of Giza . For something is this place placed under the protection of Sokaris, the god of the mysterious spaces where the resurrection takes place.
We will also visit the TiTi pyramid that has the pyramid texts. The pyramid is accessed through a passage that descends at a steep angle of approximately 60º. For safety reasons, there is currently a wooden board with metal slats on the floor of the passageway to help tourists keep their balance. After descending about 15 meters, visitors walk south under the pyramid for another 20 meters to reach the inner chambers. The height of these passages is approximately one and a half meters, and they are similar in size, shape, and preservation to those of the Pyramid of Khafre.
In the end, I return to the hotel.
Breakfast at the hotel, departure for a complete tour in the Egyptian Museum of Pharaonic art passing through all the masterpieces of it. Objects from all periods of ancient Egypt are exhibited in the museum: - Predynastic period: such as stone vessels and funerary objects. - Old Kingdom: such as statues, paintings, reliefs and movable objects. - New Kingdom: The great treasure of Tutankhamun as well as statues, reliefs and objects from the period of Tal el-Amarna and the sarcophagus of Akhenaten, funerary equipment, jewels, models and other objects. - Late Period: Statues, reliefs and funerary objects. - Greco-Roman period: Statues and funerary objects. Sculptures from various eras are exhibited in the museum gardens.
Upon completion we will head to the Saladin Citadel, which is a medieval fortification from the Islamic era, built by Salah ad-Din (Saladin) and developed by later Egyptian rulers. It was the seat of government in Egypt and the residence of its rulers for almost 700 years, from the 13th to the 19th centuries. Its location on a promontory in the Mokattam Hills near the center of Cairo dominates a strategic position overlooking the city and dominating its skyline. At the time of its construction, it was among the most impressive and ambitious military fortification projects of its time. The Citadel was built on a promontory below the Mokattam Hills, a setting that made attacking difficult. The effectiveness of the Citadel's location is further demonstrated by the fact that it remained the heart of Egyptian rule until the 19th century. In general, the fortress complex is divided into two parts: the North Precinct (where the National Military Museum is currently located) and the South Precinct (where the Muhammad Ali Mosque is currently located). The North Precinct was historically reserved for military garrisons, while the South Precinct was developed as the residence of the Sultan. There is also a lower western enclosure that was historically the site of the royal stables of the Mamluks. However, these functional distinctions were largely erased in the 19th century under Muhammad Ali Pasha, who overhauled the entire site and constructed buildings of various functions throughout the Citadel.
Near the Saladin Citadel we will also visit the Coptic Quarter with the Church of St. Sergius (where the Holy Family has taken refuge during their flight to Egypt) and the Ben Ezra Synagogue (where they found Moses in Egypt. Then, visit to Khan El Khalili Market, it is the most famous market in Egypt and the entire Middle East. Its origin dates back to the year 1382, when the Mamluk Sultan Djaharks el-Khalili decided to build a resting place for merchants. The chosen place was the ruins of an ancient Fatimid cemetery. No visit to Cairo is complete without a stop at Khan el Khalili Bazaar, where you will be transported back in time to an ancient Arab souk. The market is located in the heart of Islamic Cairo, in a walled area with a medieval air in which you can breathe the magnificence of Mamluk architecture, colorful bells, fabrics, handicrafts, jewelry, spices, perfumes, musical instruments and, of course, Egyptian souvenirs and gifts ... in the narrow streets that form the Jan market.
In the end, I return to the hotel.
Breakfast at the hotel. At the indicated time, transfer to Cairo airport to fly to Aswan. Arrival and direct visit to the High Dam of Aswan, (known in Arabic as Saad El Aali). The Aswan Dam or Aswan Dam is a mega construction, designed in 1956 and built between 1959 and 1970 by the Egyptian and Soviet governments, in order to end the floods that occurred in the territory of the lower Nile as a result of the sudden increase in the flow of the Nile.
Next visit the unfinished obelisk of Queen Hatchepsut. That it is an object that was being worked on and that it was possibly going to be the pair of the Lateran Obelisk of Karnak (today in Rome), which cracked and had to be left unfinished. Had it not been, it would have been the largest piece of worked stone in the world. The exploitation of granite, shale and alabaster quarries has been one of the riches of the region since ancient times. The blocks were transported north by the River Nile. The Egyptian obelisks erected in Rome, New York, Istanbul, Paris, and London were carved from Aswan granite rock found only in this southern region of Egypt.
