COSTA RICA CROSS OVER Cycling Tour

Welcome to Costa Rica!!! You can arrive in San José at any time. Your accommodations are ararnged so take this time to settle into the hotel or explore the city on your own. We can arrange to pick you up at the airport if you would like. You will spend your first night at the magnificent Hotel Casa de las Orquideas or a similar hotel.

After your first costa rican breakfast, you will meet your adventure guide and he or she will explain all the details of your tour in Costa Rica. You will be driven by private transfer through beautifull rolling hills to the Costa Rica Adventure Zone – The Arenal Area. After checking into your hotel in the afternoon we´ll ride 26 km through the green rainforest and past majestic mountains. We will stop and visit a wildlife rescue center called Proyecto Asis. Afterwards, we will come back to La Fortuna by van. Rest after your day by soaking in one of the natural hot springs at your hotel. Tonight you will stay at the idyllic Hotel Arenal Paraiso.

La Fortuna de San Carlos is one of the main tourist destinations in Costa Rica and Central America. In addition to its major attraction such as the Volcano, La Fortuna is a place that offers visitors a wide range of services and a variety of attractions. This a great place to try rafting, rapelling or ATVing! People interested in a more peaceful experience are encouraged to take a canopy tour and visit the Caño Negro Wildlife Reserve or the Venado Caves. Your leader will help you book your activities ahead of time. Enjoy a relaxing evening at the Hotel Arenal Paraiso or similar.

Mountain biking is a great way to travel from La Fortuna and Monteverde. The moderately difficult ride is 13 kilometers and will take 1.5 to 2-hours. We will start at the Lake Arenal Dam where you can drop off your luggage with our boat driver. From there we will ride to the rural community of El Castillo. Upon arrival to El Castillo, you will be reunited with your luggage and our boat driver will take you across lake Arenal to Rio Chiquito. From there our driver will drive the remaining 1.5-hours up the steep, gravel roads to your hotel in Monteverde. Here you can explore Costa Rica’s diverse natural environment with chances to see wildlife such as monkeys, birds, coatimundis, and sometimes even sloths and toucans! This cycling route is a real adventure – the terrain is rugged, the scenery is incredible but this is the perfect way to travel between La Fortuna and the small community of Monteverde. Tonight you will recover from your day of physical activity at the pastoral Hotel Historia Lodge.

Today we will bike through the hills of Monteverde, to meet the founders of the town and listen to some fascinating local history. Learn how the rest of the world came to know this magnificent place. After this, you will have the rest of the day to participate in the activities that your leader has helped you to book in advance. For nature lovers Monteverde offers a wide range of activities such as visiting the Santa Elena Cloud Forest Reserve, the Serpentarium, the Butterfly Gardens and Jungle Night walk tours! Monteverde is world famous for adrenaline tours and has the longest zipline in Latin America! Tonight your accommodation is at the quaint Historias Lodge!

Today you will get to know why Costa Rica is famous for its beaches! Our next destination Samara. The beautiful coastal hamlet of Samara is a paradise on the Nicoya Peninsula's western shore. Spend a day relaxing by the turquoise sea and spend the night at the scenic Villas Playa Samara or similar accommodation.

Our next ride takes us along quiet rural dirt roads past the nicest beaches of Guanacaste. This will be the hardest, but the most rewarding ride of the tour. Enjoy a beautiful sunset and a splendid dinner before spending the night at the vibrant Villas Playa Samara or similar accommodation.

Today we will rise bright and early and then we will cycle to the Wildlife Reserve of Playa Ostional. Samara's laidback vibe gives travelers the perfect setting for an afternoon of rest and relaxation. Spend some time shopping or trying new foods in the village. There are some great discos for those who are anxious to sample the nightlife! A short one-mile (2 km) walk down the beach brings visitors to the Tico hamlet of Matapalo, a great snorkeling spot. Spend another night at the tranquil Villas Playa Samara.

Spend some more time relaxing on the pristine beaches of Samara before heading to charming colonial city of Cartago where you will spend the night at the relaxing Hotel Mi Tierra.

Today we´ll ride up to the mountains of Tierra Blanca de Cartago, one of the coldest places in the country and home of the farmers who produce potatoes and onions for the rest of the country. Admire beautiful landscapes on the way to the volcano. The bike ride is intense, but it worth it because of the spectacular view from the top. Tonight you will stay at the Mi Tierra Hotel or similar accommodation.

Today we´ll go to Heredia, the City of Flowers. Enjoy your last full day in Costa Rica. Stroll through the city or just relax at the hotel´s pool. Spend the night at the beautiful Hotel Bouganvilleas or a similar hotel.

This is your last day in sunny Costa Rica. We can take you to the airport or help you extend your trip. Thank you for letting us share this amazing country with you. See you again soon!
