We are Beyond Roots, a group of friends that have joined efforts in order to provide an Immersion in Afro Cuban Culture. Growing up in Guanabacoa, one of the strongest exponents of this culture, we were raised under the living legacy of our African ancestors. Now we have an authentic passion for educating people about this misunderstood topic. We want to share with you the feeling of our community, transmit you a knowledge that has been passed from generations and show you its influence in the daily life of the Cubans from different perspectives. In this particular experience you will have an immersion in every aspect of it.

WHAT WILL WE DO?

They say that art, in its myriad forms, has a unique ability to reflect the heart and soul of a community. From the strokes of a brush on canvas to the rhythmic melodies of music. We will discover the constant evolution of human expression through the creativity of an artist who knew how to move away from the conventional and put his hometown in the crosshairs of the national artistic circuit.

• We will enter the heart of Guanabacoa, a town recognized for being the cradle of Afro- Cuban culture in Havana and one of the least touristy areas of the city. We will arrive at a true Zen oasis within the community: Corral Falso Gallery. Here we will receive an explanatory tour of the place at the hands of its founder, Tomás Núñez, who will take us into his personal artistic work as well as that of the different artists to whom his gallery has opened its doors.

• We will learn first-hand the history of the emergence and development of this project away from the crowded art spaces, which has managed to put Guanabacoa on the map as a meeting space for artists and art lovers. By exploring the spaces of his gallery, we will see how he has managed to transform his house into a space for the promotion of culture for all ages. From free workshops for children in the community, to receiving broken and disused objects from the elderly, buying them and transforming them into true works of art through various techniques.

• We will end the day enjoying a delicious homemade lunch together in the garden, totally surrounded by nature accompanied by the chords of local musicians. Here, it becomes clear that art not only reflects, but also builds, transforms, and unites communities into a colorful and diverse mosaic.
