SANTIAGO, also called Santiago de Chile, is the capital and main city of Chile and of the Metropolitan Region of Santiago, of which it is also the geographical center and whose population is mostly concentrated in the city. Located on the banks of the Mapocho River, Santiago was founded by the Spanish conqueror Pedro de Valdivia, under the name of Santiago del Nuevo Extremo (in honor of the apostle Santiago, thus becoming the capital of the Government of Nueva Extremadura) 6 in the century XVI. It is currently the economic and administrative center of the country, in addition to being the largest urban agglomeration with the largest number of population - 7.1 million inhabitants - in the national territory.
Itinerary
Departure from our hotel in Santiago to the Museum of Pre-Columbian Art, which has approximately 3,000 pieces of art, mainly Inca, Mayan and from the different regions of Chile.
Then, through the Forest Park we will arrive at the National Museum of Fine Arts, where among its works stands out a sample of Chilean painting that goes from colonial to contemporary times.
The tour will continue through the bohemian Barrio Bellavista, full of theaters, bars, art galleries, pubs, restaurants and lapis lazuli craft workshops. Here we will visit La Chascona, which was one of the houses of the poet Pablo Neruda, and today it is a museum and National Monument.
In this house that evokes a ship, there are paintings of personal friends of the poet, such as Siqueiros and Diego Rivera.
Finally, we will return to our hotel in Santiago.
